Foreign Investment Fund
Investment Policy
The Fund will invest in or hold units of foreign collective investment schemes (“CIS”) and/or foreign exchange-traded funds (“ETFs”) with equity-focused investment policies (the “Underlying Funds”). The Fund will maintain, on average over an accounting year, a net exposure of not less than 80% of its Net Asset Value (NAV) to equity securities.
The Fund will invest in at least two Underlying Funds, with such investments accounting for, on average, not less than 80% of the Fund’s NAV over an accounting year. These Underlying Funds invest primarily in equities of companies that operate in, or benefit from, the Defense Technology (“Defense Tech”) sector, including businesses with attractive growth prospects that are expected to benefit from advancements in defense-related technologies, services, systems, and hardware supporting military and national security applications.
The Fund will invest in any single Underlying Fund at an average allocation of not more than 79% of the Fund’s NAV during an accounting year.
As the Fund invests overseas, it will maintain, on average over an accounting year, net foreign exposure of not less than 80% of its NAV, or such percentage as may be prescribed by the Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Allocations among foreign mutual funds and/or foreign ETFs will be determined at the discretion of the Fund Manager, who may adjust investment weights from time to time in accordance with prevailing market conditions and investment outlooks.
For the remaining portion of the portfolio, the Fund may invest in ETFs employing leveraged or inverse management strategies as portfolio management tools. The Fund may also invest in both domestic and foreign deposits, deposit-like instruments, fixed-income securities, equities, hybrid securities, warrants, and other securities and assets, or engage in other income-generating activities as permitted under the Fund’s prospectus and applicable SEC regulations.
Foreign Exchange Risk Management
The Fund may enter into derivative transactions for hedging purposes to manage foreign exchange risk, at the discretion of the Fund Manager.
In determining the extent of currency hedging, the Fund Manager will consider prevailing financial market conditions and relevant economic, political, monetary, and fiscal factors in assessing currency trends. For example:
If the U.S. Dollar (USD) is expected to depreciate, the Fund Manager may implement FX hedging to a relatively significant extent.
If the USD is expected to appreciate, the Fund Manager may choose not to hedge, or may hedge only a limited portion of the currency exposure.
However, if the Fund Manager determines that hedging would not be in the best interests of unitholders or could adversely affect potential benefits to investors, the Fund may remain partially or fully unhedged. Investors should note that hedging transactions may involve costs, which could reduce the Fund’s overall returns.
Derivatives for Efficient Portfolio Management
The Fund may also use derivatives for Efficient Portfolio Management (EPM) and/or risk management purposes, where the underlying assets are foreign exchange rates. Such transactions may be undertaken to enhance investment returns, reduce portfolio expenses, or for other purposes permitted by SEC regulations.
Derivative contracts entered into by the Fund will have foreign exchange rates as their underlying assets. If events occur that adversely affect the contract or if a counterparty fails to meet its obligations, the Fund may receive lower-than-expected returns or incur losses. To mitigate such risks, the Management Company will monitor factors affecting the value of the underlying assets and assess the creditworthiness of counterparties before and throughout the term of the transaction. The Fund will primarily transact with counterparties that possess investment-grade credit ratings.
Investments in Affiliated Funds
The Fund may invest up to 20% of its NAV in mutual funds managed by the same Management Company, provided that such investments comply with the Fund’s investment policy and applicable SEC regulations.
In this regard:
The Underlying Funds may not invest back into the Fund (no circular investment).
The Underlying Funds may further invest in another fund managed by the same asset management company, provided that such investment does not exceed one additional layer.
Voting rights relating to investments in affiliated funds shall be exercised in accordance with SEC regulations, and the investing Fund shall not direct the voting decisions of the Underlying Funds.
Other Permitted Investments
The Fund may also invest in or hold:
Structured Notes;
Non-investment-grade debt securities;
Unrated debt securities;
Unlisted securities;
Securities lending transactions;
Reverse repurchase agreements (Reverse Repos); and
Other assets or income-generating arrangements as permitted under the Fund’s prospectus and applicable regulations.
Future Change in Fund Structure
The Management Company reserves the right to change the Fund’s structure in the future from a Fund of Funds to a Feeder Fund, or to a fund investing directly in securities, and vice versa, provided that such change does not increase the Fund’s overall risk spectrum.
Any such change will be made at the discretion of the Fund Manager based on prevailing market conditions and in the best interests of unitholders. The Management Company will provide unitholders with at least 30 days’ prior notice before implementing such a change by publishing the notice on the Management Company’s website and, where applicable, on the websites of appointed selling agents and/or redemption agents.
